| Membership Requirements
In order to become a member, you must be
at least 40 years of age, have a permanent residence, and be able to provide
clean, comfortable, and private sleeping quarters and either full or continental
breakfast for two or more guests.
Arranging a Hospitality Stay
-
From the Directory you will pick an area you
wish to visit.
-
Within that area select a member who best
offers what you need.
-
Contact that member to arrange your stay.
You can do this by E-mail, Telephone, or Fax.
Points to Cover when Contacting a Member
-
Identify yourself as a member of the The Affordable
Travel Club.
-
Date and length of your visit.
-
Number of persons in your party.
-
Verify items in listing that are important
to you and state any needs you have (allergies, etc).
After confirmation of your accommodations,
get the address and clear directions to your host's residence and agree
on a suitable arrival time. The day before you arrive, call the host
again to verify visit and time of arrival. This is very important.
You would not want your host to wait around all day. If you are delayed,
pick up a phone and call.
Membership Verification
Current membership status can be verified
by checking the Directory. Hosts should also check for current membership
cards which confirms a member is in good standing. ALWAYS
CARRY YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD WITH YOU WHEN YOU TRAVEL!
Stay Guidelines
The following are only suggested guidelines.
It is up to the host to set guidelines for his/her home.
-
Maximum Stay: 4 days. The Club was not
meant for long stays. However, this is up to each host--ask if you
want to stay longer.
-
Non-members traveling with members should
be limited to one (i.e. single member may take a companion). The
host may decide if he/she wants to accept more than one non-member.
-
No alcoholic beverages or food should be brought
into a host's home without permission, and the host's smoking policy must
be strictly observed.
-
The guest should plan activities away from
the home during the day to insure the privacy of the host.
Responsibilities
As a Host you provide a clean, comfortable
place for your guests to stay, serve breakfast, and acquaint the members
with your area.
As a Guest you should confirm your arrival
time the day before you arrive. Have your gratuity ready to present
to your Host. Be considerate of your host's privacy and time. Plan
daytime activities away from the home.
Things to Remember
-
Reservations made more than a month in advance
are always "Tentative". Unforeseen events can take a person away
from their daily routine. In this type of Club please realize that emergencies
can and do happen. If a member can not host at the last minute, one
may have to find other lodging.
-
Keep the lines of communication open.
The day before you arrive, call your host and again confirm your arrival
time.
-
Upon arrival, present your membership card
and gratuity to your host. An easy way to do this is to put the gratuity
in a thank-you card.
Annual Dues
The yearly membership dues are:
US, Canada, Mexico Host
Overseas Host |
$65 (Computer versions only)
$75 (Printed Directory only)
Free - Computer Versions Only
$20 - Printed Directory (Printing and
Postage) |
Gratuities
Guests pay a gratuity to their hosts.
Gratuities are stated in U.S. dollars per night. When traveling outside
of your home country, ask your host which currency they prefer. When
converting, it should be equivalent to U.S. dollars using the official
exchange rate for that currency. For example, 20 Canadian dollars
or 20 Euro dollars are not equivalent to 20 U.S. dollars.
The Affordable Travel Club Lodging Gratuity
per night :
-
Single
$15.00
-
Double
$20.00
-
Each add'l person
$10.00
Overseas hosts (outside of North America)
may charge an additional $10 to the above gratuity.
When a single member travels and takes
along a non-member companion, the gratuity fee is the double rate ($20),
not 2 single gratuities. If two bedrooms are used, however, the guests
should pay an extra $10 for the additional effort on the host.
